I always liked Opera, but never really considered going to a performance until I was in Riga.
I just loved Riga’s beautiful Opera House, and when I saw there were summer performances I thought to have a look at the website and see what was happening.
I saw that there would be a performance of La Traviata while I was in town. And you could get a ticket from EUR10 (AUD$17) – holy moly. In Australia, a ticket to the opera usually starts at AUD $100 per person, so I was so happy to see theatre so affordable in Europe.
I had to download and print out my ticket to gain entry. So I popped into Copy Pro and printed my ticket.
I knew very little about Verdi’s Opera, except that it was very old, and featured in “Pretty Woman”. It also means – “the woman led astray”.
The show started at 7pm.
There were 2 intervals which were perfect for stretching your legs outside.
It was wonderful, and pure entertainment.
They even had subtitles in English at the top of the stage, which I didn’t need to look at often because you can kind-of follow the story without understanding Italian.
Overall a wonderful night and a great experience.
